Nu är vi tillbaka i Hikkaduwa sedan i söndags eftermiddag! Vi åkte tuk tuk hit och hade en supertrevlig förare. En genuint trevlig förare som inte bara var trevlig för att han skulle få dricks, som så många andra... Han gjorde färden till en liten sight-seeing. Berättade om jättemånga saker vi åkte förbi, men berättade även om tsunamin och visade var den hade förstört saker. Så fruktansvärt. Vi har märkt att väldigt många här i Sri Lanka gärna berättar om tsunamin, vilket är väldigt intressant och hemskt att höra om. Vår förare berättade exempelvis att han hade runt 100 personer, lokalinvånare samt turister, som bodde i hans hus och trädgård när det hade hänt. Han bor nämligen inåt och uppåt. 

Igår låg vi på stranden hela dagen. Vi skulle också boka dykning.. Men eftersom vi har haft sådan himla otur med dykning under hela resan så kunde den ju inte sluta bara för att vi var i Sri Lanka. Nä, för det visade sig att sikten bara är 1 meter så man ser ingenting, och man måste ha special-utbildning för att dyka. Alltså ÅHHH så ledsna vi blev!!! Vi har verkligen haft otur med dykningen. Så himla trist.

Idag har det faktiskt varit dåligt väder hela dagen. Grått, regn, åska, blixtrar.. Regnperioden börjar nog smyga sig på nu. Den börjar i Maj! Så idag har vi promenerat runt i olika affärer, ätit, fikat, tagit det lugnt, klippt oss, och så har vi varit på ett ställe där de räddar och tar hand om sköldpaddor! Det var häftigt att se, och häftigt att höra om! Bebis-sköldpaddorna var helt fantastiskt söta. Där tog de hand om ägg, bebisar, handikappade sköldpaddor osv. Bebisarna släpper de ut efter ett litet tag. Äggen bevarar de där för att människor annars tar dem och säljer dem. 

Där fick vi höra två berättelser till om tsunamin. För ägaren berättade att hela stället blev förstörd i tsunamin. Likaså hans hem som ligger precis bredvid. Och, där dog hans hela familj. Hans mamma, pappa, fru och tre barn. Fy farao vad hemskt. 

 I tuk-tuk:en på vägen tillbaka så berättade vår förare att när tsunamin kom så fattade ingen vad som hände. Alla gick och kollade. Sen insåg de att de kanske skulle akta på sig... Så han sa att han och några andra killar sprang inåt landet. Vissa var rädda, men de flesta bara skrattade och tyckte det var häftigt. För ingen visste ju då var en tsunami var! Men de tyckte inte det var lika häftigt när kom tillbaka och såg att allt var förstörd och att det låg döda människor här och var. Fy, fy, fy. Hade man faktiskt vetat då vad en tsunami var så hade säkerligen inte i närheten av lika människor dött. Många här säger ju att alla ställde sig och titta för o se vad som försiggick, istället för att fly.

Hi friends! 

We're back in Hikkaduwa since Sunday afternoon. We went with tuk-tuk and had a super nice driver. A genuine nice person who wasn't just being nice to get tip, like so many other ones... He made the drive to a kind of sight-seeing. Told us about many things that we were driving by, but he also told us a lot about the tsunami and showed us where it had destroyed things. So sad. We have noticed that many people here in Sri Lanka like to tell us about the tsunami, which is really interesting but also extremely sad to hear about. Our driver, for example, told us that he had around 100 people living in his house and yard after it happened. Because he lives further in and up a little. 

Yesterday we were on the beach the whole day. We were also going to book diving.. But since we've been extremely unlucky with diving through out this whole trip, it couldn't just stop here in Sri Lanka. Nope, because it turned out the visibility was only 1 meter so you can't see anything, and you have to have a special certification to do it. AHHHHH we got so sad!!! We've been so unlucky with the diving. So, so sad. 

Today the weather has actually not been very nice. Gray, rainy, thunder, lightning... The rain period is probably coming now slowly. It starts in May! So today we walked around in different stores, ate, had fika, got hair cuts, relaxed and went to a turtle sanctuary! It was really cool to see, and cool to hear about! The baby-turtles were incredibly cute. At the sanctuary they took care of babies, eggs, handicapped turtles etc. They let out the babies on the beach after a while. The eggs they keep there because otherwise people take them from the beach to sell them.

We got to hear about two stories from the tsunami there. Because the owner told us that the whole place was destroyed in the tsunami. Also his home, that was right next to it. And, there his whole family died. His mom, his dad, his wife and 3 kids. Just terrible. 

 In the tuk-tuk on the way back our driver told us about when the tsunami came. Because when it started happening, no one knew what was going on, because no one knew what a tsunami was! So everyone went to watch what was happening. Then they realized that maybe they should move out of there. So he and some other guys started running further in. Some were a bit scared, but most of them just laughed and thought it was pretty cool. Since no one knew what a tsunami actually was! But then when they came back it wasn't as cool, when they saw that everything was destroyed and there were dead people here and there. So, so, so sad. If people would've known what a tsunami is, not nearly as many people would've died, for sure. Many people here say that everyone just looked at what was going on, instead of getting out of there.
